7315 KCS Deramus Yard Reconstruction

Location: Shreveport, Louisiana

Cost: $25,000,000.00
Owner: Kansas City Southern Railway
Date: 2005-05-10

The Hill Brothers/Wilbur Smith Team’s Design-Build proposal was selected to perform the reconstruction of the Deramus Yard in Shreveport, Louisiana. In addition to the design and construction requirements for this project, the design-build team is also responsible for the permitting, obtaining any additional funding that might be available for the two bridge structures, environmental, surveying and right-of-way acquisitions.

The purpose of this project is to double the capacity of the receiving and departure tracks and convert the flat yard to an automated hump yard to allow for an increase of the flow of rail traffic through Deramus Yard and to improve its operating efficiency. In addition, the project will provide improved access for motorist to Lakeview properties on the southwest side of Deramus Yard, between the rail yard and Cross Lake, via new, grade-separated crossings for North Lakeshore Drive at the north and south ends of the yard. These new, grade-separated crossings will increase the vertical and horizontal clearances for motor vehicles that are now constrained by the current at-grade crossings. In addition, the project envisions the beginnings of a levee stabilization program for the Cross Lake levee.
