Construction of this project consisted of clearing, cut, fill, erosion control, asphalt and concrete paving, grassing, grading, drainage, underground piping, underground electrical, turbine foundations, miscellaneous foundations and auger cast piling.
The project was a new power plant implementing gas combustion power generation turbines. The site was approximately 60 acres, which were cleared, graded and finished. The approximate excavation for the project was 100,000 cubic yards. The project also consisted of approximately 21,000 linear feet of underground mechanical piping, all of the electrical duct banks for power distribution and construction of all of the power plant foundations, which required approximately 22,000 cubic yards of concrete.
This project required coordination with both General Electric and the Tennessee Valley Authority along with many subcontractors to accomplish a project of such magnitude in such a short period of time. Hill Brothers completed approximately 80% of the requirements for this contract with its own forces.
