 |
I would like to start off by saying I hope everyone has had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year! Hill Brothers has almost completed its 29th year in the construction business. I can
remember very well the year (1978) Hill Brothers went into business; I was 14 years old,
and many of my cousins and I spent our summers and Christmas breaks working out on
the job sites. Everything was new to us but we all were willing to learn, and for the most
part, willing to do anything that was asked of us. Even though we were young and inexperienced,
we learned fast. ..we didn't have a choice, it was expected! I can remember vividly
all of my mistakes made during my early years some 30 years ago. It's always interesting
to reminisce with some of the owners and employees you started out with, and see exactly what they remember,
and some of the mistakes they made early on. Several of these people are now working in the Home office and most started out in the field operating equipment (rollers, farm tractors) surveying, pouring concrete, etc. Mine was the 815 roller and checking slopes with a hand level -- I'm sure you can still buy one but
no one ever uses them anymore. I remember Uncle Bobby always had a good one; I believe it was the old
K&E. And if you borrowed it, you better make damn sure you brought it back! I could elaborate on this, but
I'd end up taking more space than I am allotted!
On a more serious note, I would like to say that I have worked with a lot of good people and it's always been a
pleasure and a blessing. You know, we all have different ways of doing things, different perspectives, methods
& personalities, but we've always managed reached our common goal. We got the job done, and done to the
best of our ability. As long as we continue to pull together, and keep our eyes on that goal, we will continue a
long-standing tradition of excellence, commitment, and reliability. Thank you, everyone.
