Message from the CEO

Hill Brothers Construction would like to remind everyone that as of June 28th 2008 we have been in business for 30 years!! This is wonderful news and it’s been a wonderful ride for several employees and the owners……if you don’t believe me just spend a little time and listen as they explain what they all went through……each one has a story well worth listening to. For some of you that don’t remember back to 1978, I’ll share some memories with you. HBCC’s first corporate office was a pool house that is currently located behind R.K. Hill’s house; the office dimensions were approximately 10x 20 with only enough room for couple of people. This lasted through a few jobs until a used car lot building was purchased and moved to where the HBCC office is currently located.
Since then the office has had 6 additions at this location and we currently have approximately 450 employees. As some of you are aware of, in the near future MDOT ROW will purchase our current location for the purpose of expanding Highway 15 and HBCC will be required to relocate; at this time the plans are to build a new office in front of the Falkner Elementary School located just south of our current location.

I would like remind everyone that HBCC has recently lost two very important employees; Mr. Buddy Neal and Mr. Buddy “Hungry” Deaton. These two gentlemen were great friends to HBCC-- their experience and dedication is irreplaceable, and I can assure you they will be missed greatly. I ask that you all keep their families in your prayers.

Keep safety first in everything you do and make sure you mentor all new employees.

Sincerely,

Kenny Hill

Safety Pays
Safety Pays

ATTITUDE, CULTURE, BEHAVIOR…these are all common terms often heard in safety discussions. But what do they really mean? My view is they all refer to how we go about performing our daily duties on the job and how much emphasis we put on safety in them. We must always have the right attitude, believe in the safety culture, and exhibit safe behavior. It is shown that 50% - 90% of all accidents can be traced to unsafe behavior. Also, unsafe acts occur 7 times more frequently than unsafe conditions. We have been very fortunate so far this year with a few near misses that could have been serious and I hope we all learned from these.

I do believe everyone has really stepped up and bought into our safety program (SAFETY CULTURE). We have had numerous safety lunches, giveaways, and “that-a-boys/girl” this year. I have seen tremendous improvements at all our jobs and the shop. However, we can always do better! I want to challenge everyone to do even better the second half of 2008. I know we can do it, but it will take all of us working together!

If you see UNSAFE ATTITUDES, UNSAFE CULTURE or UNSAFE BEHAVIORS let them know “WE WORK SAFE” at Hill Brothers!

Remember! Think about what you do, Report all unsafe acts/conditions to your supervisor or safety officer, and Watch out for each other.

Benton Elliott.

Employee of the Month / Core Values Champion

In an effort to recognize the performance and contributions of this individual who provides such exceptional service and valuable contributions, I would like to nominate Darla "Dee" Uran for employee of the month.
Dee is the secretary in the Gulfport-Biloxi Airport Project located at the airport in Gulfport, Ms. Her manager is David Hardin.
In a recent random review from the Mississippi Department of Labor, the auditor was so appreciative of Dee's efforts to go beyond the normal duty of retrieving records that she complimented HBCC for having such a loyal employee. It was pointed out to us that Dee's commitment to keeping company records maintained and organized made the audit run smoothly.
Her characteristics of helpfulness, efficiency and her positive attitude are demonstrated daily.
